A Magnificent Life: The Story of Colonel Winfield Scott Gibson III
Born in Greenville, Mississippi in 1922, Scott began life as a barefoot boy, struggling through poverty of the Great Depression. When WWII broke out, he began the military career that would see him through three wars, bring him to the Pentagon and give him a significant role in putting the first ICBM missiles in the ground, preparing him for his enormous contribution in the civilian world at Rockwell International on the space shuttle program. Claiming numerous angelic interventions that both preserved and continued him on his path, Col. Gibson III truly lived a magnificent life.
In A Magnificent Life: The Story of Colonel Winfield Scott Gibson III, storyteller Elizabeth Gibson honors her relative’s extraordinary journey—from a humble Mississippi childhood to a distinguished military and civilian career shaping space exploration. Elizabeth, based in Salt Lake, Utah, comes from a rich tradition of family storytelling. She specializes in Southern folklore, true ghost stories, and personal narratives, with a lifelong passion for the supernatural. A member of the Olympus Chapter of the Utah Storytelling Guild, she captivates audiences with tales that weave mystery and personal history.
